Glass in the Nude: Flame Run Celebrates the Purity of Glass
Glass in its simplest, most basic form, will be the subject of "Pure," from Aug. 6 to Sept. 17 at Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery. An opening night reception begins at 5 p.m. on Gallery Hop night with a demonstration at 7 p.m.
Flame Run's owner Brook White Jr., said he challenged the Flame Run artists "to create glass without the wonderful distraction of color."
"This is a chance to explore glass in its purest form," he said.
Twelve artists, including White, are participating: Sergio Rodrigues, Matthew Cummings, Che Rhodes, Patrick Martin, TIffany Zink, Tiffany Ackerman, Alexandra Marchant, Paul Nelson, Mike Hudson, Jake Pfeifer and Jonathan Capps.
Flame Run celebrates a mentor and his protégés: “Centre College & Friends”
Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery's upcoming exhibit, "Centre College & Friends," celebrates Stephen Rolfe Powell, who is a seminal figure in contemporary glass art in Kentucky, and also celebrates a wide-ranging group of artists Powell mentored over the last 25 years while he built the Centre College glass program.
The show runs from June 4 through July 30. An opening night reception begins at 5 p.m.
The artists were selected by Brook Forrest White Jr., owner of Flame Run, and by Powell, who continues his mentoring legacy as a professor at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.
"This is a chance to highlight the impact Steve Powell's students are having on the glass world," White said. "I want to pay homage to what he and Centre College have done for glass art."
White said the exhibit was scheduled to open the week before Ingenious Possibilities, the Glass Art Society's 40th annual conference from June 10 through 12, which features more than 50 glass art exhibits at venues across the city. White is a conference co-chair.
Centre College & Friends will run concurrently with an exhibit of the work of Australian glass masters Ben Edols and Kathy Elliott.

Flame Run Celebrates the Collaborations of Two Australian Masters: Ben Edols and Kathy Elliott
Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery will celebrate the work of Ben Edols and Kathy Elliott, the Australian couple whose reclining leaf series and other signature blown and cold-worked collaborations have won international acclaim. The exhibit opens June 4 and runs through July 30. An opening night reception begins at 5 p.m.
The couple's most recent work focuses on botanica: leaves, pods, buds, and seeds. Edols spends most of his time blowing glass using Italian techniques he learned from Lino Tagliapietra, the Italian maestro, and Elliott specializes in cold working techniques. Their work has been exhibited in the U.S., Australia, Japan, Germany, England and Italy. They live in Sydney, Australia.
The exhibit will open the week before Ingenious Possibilities, the Glass Art Society's 40th annual conference in Louisville from June 10 through 12, which features more than 50 glass art exhibits at venues across the city.
"Having the Glass Art Society's (GAS) annual conference in Louisville gave us a chance to exhibit Ben and Kathy's very striking collaborations," said Flame Run owner Brook White, a conference co-chair.
Edols is doing a demonstration during the GAS conference and a post-GAS conference workshop at Flame Run. The workshop opens at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 14, and ends Friday, June 18.
The Edols-Elliott exhibit will run concurrently with "Centre College & Friends," featuring the work of alumni and friends who are working in glass.
