Flame Run featured the work of Steven Ciezki, whose classically inspired work has a fresh, inventive quality in a solo show that opened Oct. 3 and ran through Nov. 22.

The show included Ciezki’s towers (he also calls them stacks), which have the appearance of exaggerated goblet stems.

Ciezki plays with color and space and doesn’t mind tricking the viewer. One set of stacks appear to be intertwined.  As you move around the piece, the simple shapes – triangles, squares, rectangles – break down and make you take another look. The exhibit included a mix of Ciezki’s old and new work, “an indication of how quickly the 25-year-old artist’s star is rising,” said Flame Run’s Gallery Manager Tiffany Ackerman.

“This show has a lot of brand new pieces that haven’t been shown anywhere else. They are architecturally beautiful and very contemporary but you can see the roots of an old style,” she said. “What is going to be interesting is seeing the old work and newer work beside each other. It is really exciting when you can see how an artist’s process has developed.”
